Dear Band Boosters:
For all Band
Members and Booster Families, the following information
applies:
The next Band Booster Meeting
will be Thursday, 6 NOV 08, and all parents are invited to hear plans for the
rest of the marching season as well as the transition
to concert season.
The annual
auction fund raiser will be Saturday, 8 NOV 08 in the WSHS cafeteria. See attached flyer for more
details; and remember that this fund raiser is as much
fun as it is good money for the band organization, and
also makes for great gifts as we move towards the holiday
season. Encourage friends and neighbors to join us!!!
Another fund raiser opportunity is the Capitol
Steps (www.capsteps.com) show on Sunday, 16 NOV 08, with both
the tickets and concession proceeds going towards general
funds and student accounts. We need to see how much interest
we have for helpers with concessions, open to all band
members, and Mr. Carder will run announcements through
School Fusion to get out more information. Tami Cope-Jones
expressed interest in working this event, and she will
need a handful of helpers to join her. Logistically the
most fitting volunteers would be from those not attending
the event -- but we wouldn't turn away willing hands.
If interested contact Tami or me.
Fruit
sale and Patriot
Center fund raisers are ongoing
- for more information see the booster web site. Students
can make participation in band events free to families,
with work that earns funds towards their individual accounts.
For Marching Band
Senior Night recognition is Friday, 31 OCT 08 at the football game. As part of
the event, we would like all Senior Parents to have the "night off" from
routine booster support - a new tradition! In that line of thinking, the parents
of underclassmen should count on stepping up and joining an effort like pit,
uniform help, chaperones, and other areas of assistance that the band needs for
home games. We already have a large number of faithful supporters from the underclasses;
we'll have a particular need this week for additional helpers - so if you've
volunteered before, we'd sure appreciate counting on you Friday. If you have
not previously assisted, but thought you might be interested, now is your chance
to try it out and see if you'd like to continue a particular area in the future.
Times will be published soon (Mr. Carder), and see you there!
Congratulations on excellent results at the VBODA competition last Saturday!
Very respectfully,
Tom

Dear Band Community:
Former Band Director
Darrell Pearman and his wife Nichole were blessed
with two new additions to their family. Mr. Pearman
writes the following on Oct. 16, 2008:
"Just a quick note to let you know that Nichole had
twins on Monday 10-13-08
at 4:40 and 4:52 PM. She is doing well and will be home this evening. She had
a natural delivery; Stephen Mitchell Pearman was born first at 6 lbs 7.5 oz.
Melody Grace Pearman was next at 5 lbs 6 oz. They are doing well, but a little
jaundice. Otherwise healthy and quite a handful."
If you would like to congratulate the Pearmans on their new blessings send
an email to thepearmanclan@verizon.net.
Sincerely,
Ed Bayne

Dear Band Boosters:
The update to the By-laws has been completed, and will
be posted to the WSHS Band Boosters website within the day, for all
to view. Over the next month, before the next booster
meeting (6 NOV 08), please review and get comments
or questions to the Vice President, Mrs. Mary Weiss, if there are
points that need clarification. This review period is not a time to change
the by-laws, rather a time to review and bring concerns or questions to the
by-law committee. If we need to make alterations, we will consider that at
the November meeting.
As always, thank you for your continued support, and enjoy the shows - Viking
Pride!
Very respectfully,
Tom

Dear Band Boosters:
All
boosters -
By-laws
update: We will present at the 2 October
meeting, post on line, allow one month to review,
and then they can accept (or decline) by vote
in November . Remember, this is not a time to
make additional changes (the By-law committee
has been doing that over a number of meetings);
rather, it is an opportunity to read them and
ask for clarification if necessary. In November
we will then get a motion from the floor to accept
the by laws for the upcoming year(s). As we have
a great committee with a wealth of knowledge
on different organizational By-laws working this
issue, we think they will be very clear. They
should provide a concise guide of how we operate
and what we as an organization want to achieve
in the future.
For the Marching
Band Boosters -
We
need an underclass parent,
preferably one with a freshman or sophomore student, to
assist in coordinating the Senior Night activity on
31 October. Ms. Lynn Schreiber has done
a large portion of the work in recent years, and
she has a good handle on it to pass off information
for this year's event (her daughter is a senior).
My wife, Carin, also has a good bit of knowledge
on this event; but with our future here in Woodbridge
in question, we don't want to put the band in jeopardy
of losing two knowledgeable people at the end of
this year. If you or someone you know is interested
in shadowing this year's preparation, in order
to pick up a more substantial role next year, please
let me know.
As with all the events, thank
you for your continued support, and enjoy the shows
- Viking Pride!
Very respectfully,
Tom
